Introduction

Welcome to the Qualification Prospectus for the British Triathlon Federation. All our qualifications are on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as Vocationally Recognised Qualifications (VRQ's), awarded by 1st4Sport Qualifcations and regulated by the Office of Qualifications (OfQual), formerly QCA.

The BTF Coach Education Programme has been developed in conjunction with the UK Steering Group for triathlon and sportscoachUKto improve the quality and consistency of triathlon coaching at all levels throughout the UK. The course syllabus has been developed in line with the UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) criteria and more recently endorsed by the International Triathlon Union - as a globally recognised coach education system.

UKCC - The Facts

  • The UKCC is a government driven initiative, led by sports coach UK to ensure a high standard of athlete centred coaching qualifications across all sports in the UK
  • The UKCC gives a UK-wide endorsement of quality, safety assured courses that provide a benchmark for employers
  • The new UKCC endorsed qualifications focus on the skills required to deliver quality coaching, combined with the specific technical knowledge of the sport. You will see this referred to as the "HOW to Coach" skills and the "WHAT to Coach" skills of the sport
  • The new UKCC endorsed qualifications cannot be compared to previous British Triathlon qualifcations as the content and structure of the qualification is presented in a different way.

To ensure high quality and consistent delivery, all courses are delivered by appropriately trained and approved Educators, Assessors and Verifiers who have a wealth of triathlon and coaching experience. Support for coaches is also provided at a regional/ county level by a team of Regional Programme Managers and Regional/ Club Coaching Coordinators.
