Discretionary Places
Discretionary places will only be awarded under exceptional circumstances.
To apply for a Discretionary Place an athlete must submit a Discretionary Place Application Form, obtainable via an email request to: laurenbouchard@britishtriathlon.org.
Athletes must show that they had every intention of completing a qualifying race but due to exceptional circumstances could not compete. Before applying, athletes must first register their intent to qualify for the event by making a normal registration by the deadline set. Application forms cannot be accepted from any athlete who has not registered their intent to qualify by the registration deadline.
To gain a discretionary place an athlete MUST:
- Have registered their intent to qualify before 5pm on the Friday before the last qualification race.
- Have an exceptional reason why they could not attend a qualifying race (e.g. family bereavement, armed force service). Disqualification from a race, injury, illness or living abroad is not considered an exceptional reason.
- Be of proven medal potential, as shown in race results from within the last 12 months.
- Submit a completed discretionary place application form to laurenbouchard@britishtriathlon.org within a week of the last qualifing race.
