100 Days to Go ‘til spotlight falls on Rio 2016

Published:

With 100 days to go until the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Team GB is encouraging the United Kingdom get behind its athletes as they prepare to reach their goals and make the nation proud once again.

Following the extraordinary feats displayed by our athletes at London 2012, seeing Team GB tally an incredible 65 medals including a gold and bronze courtesy of Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee, the overwhelming backing of a nation has never been more important as our athletes prepare for an Olympic Games thousands of miles away.

Triathletes who have met the nomination criteria and are looking to fly the British flag, subject to formal selection with Team GB, are Non Stanford, Vicky Holland and Helen Jenkins in the women’s team, and Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee for the men’s team.

A further men’s slot still remains, which will be decided next month following the ITU World Triathlon Yokohama. Reserves will also be nominated, with the full team being announced in early June.

Narrowing the 6,000 miles between the UK and Brazil, Team GB is encouraging the nation to unite through its official Fan Club; a digital base that connects the fan with the athlete through inspiring words of support. Adding the personal touch, members will also be able to show dedication to the team by leaving messages of support, which will feature on customised Union Flags out with the team in Rio.

Jack Buckner, British Triathlon Chief Executive said, “The Olympic Games are the pinnacle in any athlete’s career and I’m certain the nation will get fully behind the team as, together, we count down the next 100 days until the Games begin.

“I have high hopes for our triathletes to succeed in Rio and wish them the very best of luck with their training in the lead up.”

“This is another huge year for Team GB and the athletes taking part have committed so much to get to Brazil. The Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be extremely special and we want the nation to feel the same excitement and pride that was so powerful during London 2012,” said Bill Sweeney, BOA Chief Executive.

“We know that Team GB will give everything for an incredible performance, we just need to ensure they can hear the roar of the nation behind them.”

Today, Wednesday 27 April, also marks the unveiling of the Official Team GB kit. For more information, please visit here.
