Alison Wyeth appointed as Loughborough Director of Triathlon

Published:

Loughborough University and British Triathlon are pleased to announce that Alison Wyeth will take up a newly created Director of Triathlon role. She will act as the key link between the two organisations to further develop and run a High Performance Triathlon programme that encompasses student and World Class programmes.

As Director of Triathlon, Wyeth will lead an integrated student, Olympic and Paralympic programme that benefits from the excellent training and sports science facilities on campus. With further developing the partnership a primary focus, Wyeth will manage high performing coaches, support staff and athletes to establish Loughborough as one of the world’s best triathlon training centres.

Having mixed training groups across the triathlon disciplines, the programme will optimise training for each individual performer and create an environment for athletes to achieve their best performances in all levels of triathlon competition. The aim is to build a holistic training environment that can maximise athlete potential.

Currently National Performance Institute Manger for British Athletics, who are also based on the Loughborough University campus, Wyeth will commence her new role in September. Of her new challenge, the Olympian said:

“I am really looking forward to the opportunities the role of Director of the Loughborough Triathlon Performance Centre present and to building on the integrated approach to performance sport which is fast developing here at the University.  Triathlon has a rising profile in the UK and the Loughborough experience will build on this across the performance pathway.

I've really enjoyed my 8 years working at British Athletics. It has been an amazing experience and I have gained so much from working with a great group of athletes and staff.”

Of Alison’s appointment, Loughborough’s Deputy Director of Sport, Andy Borrie said:

“We’re pleased to have Alison on board as Director of Triathlon in what is an exciting time of change at Loughborough. Given her past experiences with British Athletics I have no doubt that she’ll help to elevate triathlon in Loughborough to an even higher level and I look forward to working with her.”

British Triathlon Performance Director, Brendan Purcell, added:

“A key element of a successful performance squad is having a wide range of dependable training partners. We have already seen that integrating the Paratriathlon Hub with the elite and student programmes has created a really positive environment. With Alison’s appointment we can fully integrate the programmes and will have something that is very different to what has been in place in the past.

“Alison’s background as a high performing track athlete, as well as her experience with British Athletics, the Commonwealth Games and British Olympic Association, will ensure that Loughborough based triathletes have every opportunity to thrive.”
