Dambuster did the honours in filling final spots for Chicago

Published:

Dambuster Triathlon gave athletes a last-chance opportunity to make the Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2015 ITU Standard Distance Triathlon World Championships, to be staged in Chicago in September.

With the previous spots having been filled by The Little Beaver and Deva Triathlon, athletes showed no mercy as they set their sights on podium finishes in Leicestershire’s Rutland Water.

The swim was a straight one lap 1500m. Tried and tested, the course started front of the Harbour Bar in Rutland Water lake.

The 42km bike course was suited to strong riders. Being undulating, it was a real test of endurance before athletes embarked on the 10km run. The double loop around the lake and across the dam was the final test of strength to see who had it in them to push to the line.

Nearly two and half minutes clear of the field, Luke Pollard took the M20-24 top-spot, stopping the clock quickest of the day in 1:55:40. Matthew Nelson (M20-24) was second to the line in 1:58:22 and notably was the swiftest in the water, completing his swim in 18:46. Daniel Jenkin took the M25-29 title and was third overall with 1:59:40.

The women’s race was won by a heroic effort from Samantha Warriner who took the W40-44 title in 2:07:45. Her nearest female rival was Lucy Nell (W25-29) in 2:11:42. BRAT Club’s Samantha Rose (W25-29) was third female to finish the Olympic distance course in 2:14:22.
