As paratriathlon’s debut in the Paralympic Games approaches, the performances of British paratriathletes Phil Hogg (PT1) and Lauren Steadman (PT4) have been recognised at the British Triathlon Awards Evening hosted at Loughborough University earlier today (14 November 2014).

Phil and Lauren won the British Triathlon Paratriathlete of the Year awards after standout seasons in a year where the International Paralympic Committee confirmed the classifications that will be competed at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Phil Hogg, named British Triathlon Male Paratriathlete of the Year won silver at both the European and World Championships this season and has been consistently Britain’s leading PT1 athlete ending the year ranked number 1 in the World.

British Triathlon Female Paratriathlete of the Year, Lauren Steadman has also had a phenomenal year that saw her enthralling rivalry with teammate Faye McClelland continue as the two paratriathletes battled to become not only Great Britain’s leading PT4 paratriathlete, but also the leading PT4 paratriathlete in the world.

The season began with four-time world champion Faye McClelland winning the Yokohama ITU World Paratriathlon Event, before Lauren took over winning the London ITU World Paratriathlon Event in Hyde Park. She continued her success in Kitzbuhel winning the European title, before she was crowned world champion in Edmonton. It was this performance in Canada at the end of last season that also saw Lauren collect the Peter Holmes Award for Inspirational Performance in an International Competition at tonight’s awards.
