Sophie Coldwell storms to victory in Geneva

Sophie Coldwell celebrated the biggest British success of the weekend, winning the ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup in Geneva.

In the junior women’s race, Sophie set the tone for victory by posting the fastest swim of the day, putting her in a strong position for the remainder of the race. 
 
The Nottingham triathlete held off the challenge of race favourite Angelica Olmo (ITA) by a comfortable margin of 16 seconds to cross the line in 01:08.45. The Italian athlete took silver ahead of New Zealand’s Elise Salt who, although very powerful on the bike, just couldn’t hold the pace on the run and had to settle for bronze.

Just outside the medals Kate Curran finished in fifth (01:09.55), Sian Rainsley (01:10.07) in sixth and Bronwen Owen in seventh (01:10.19). Read the full results here
 
In the junior men’s race, Britain’s top finisher was Ben Dijkstra who finished second with a time of 01:00.57, just eight seconds behind the winner Lukas Pertl of Austria.
 
Jimmy Kershaw was fifth (01:01.26), Luke Penny finished seventh (01:01.31) and Anthony Haynes was eighth (01:01.31). Read the full results here.
 
In the senior ETU Triathlon European Cup in Geneva, Emma Pallant was third in 02:15.02), with India Lee in fifth with a time of 02:15.22. Jessica Learmonth was another top-ten finisher in eighth with a time of 02:15.47. Click on the links for the full results from both the women’s and men’s race.
 
Outside of European competition, Iain Dawson finished fifth in the PT5 category at the ITU World Paratriathlon International Event in Magog, Canada.
