Triathlon workforce celebrated at British Triathlon Awards

Published:

In an evening aimed at celebrating the performances of the Great Britain and Home Nation teams, the Coaches, Volunteers and Officials who underpin the sport have also been recognised by the Leigh Day British Triathlon Workforce Awards at the British Triathlon Awards Evening on Friday 14 November 2014.

The Leigh Day British Triathlon Volunteer of the Year award went to Sheila Hosman, who is known for working tirelessly behind the scenes at Crystal Palace Triathlon. Sheila balances a full-time job with a household of competing triathletes; it is often her own training schedule that is sacrificed to mastermind the officiating at the Crystal Palace Triathlon, the volunteer support for the Club's Junior section or  the development of the Region's Junior Training Squad.

The Leigh Day British Triathlon Official of the Year award went to Maisie Bancewicz for the second successive year. Maisie contributes significantly to officiating at Scottish, British and International events, from the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games through to Bishopbriggs Sprint Triathlon. The 2014 Leigh Day British Triathlon Official of the Year has seen and done it all.  On top of officiating at events, our winner also sits on the ETU Technical Committee, in between her busy schedule as a full time A&E nurse.

The Leigh Day British Triathlon Coach of the Year award was won by Anthony Dally of Taff Ely Triathlon Club. Anthony has coached at his local club for over a decade and is an inspiration to newcomers to the sport.

In a night of celebration, British Triathlon also celebrated Aberfeldy Middle Distance Triathlon winning the British Triathlon Event of the Year. The event was this year’s British Middle Distance Triathlon Championships and has seen participation numbers grow from 65 in 1996 to over 750 this year.
