British Triathlon confirms 2015 World Class Programme athletes

Published:

British Triathlon has confirmed the UK Sport Lottery Funded World Class squad for 2015. Olympic medal winners Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee feature alongside former world champions Non Stanford and Helen Jenkins.

Aaron Harris is rewarded for his performances during 2014, which included sixth place at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, with a move into the Podium Squad.

Commonwealth Games gold medal winners, Jodie Stimpson and Vicky Holland also feature in the Podium squad with regular ITU World Triathlon Series top-ten finisher, Adam Bowden.

Scottish Commonwealth Games representative, David McNamee, has made the decision to focus on middle and long distance racing rather than ITU events so will not take up his place on the squad.

Katie Hewison has retired from international triathlon following a career that has included World and European duathlon titles, an ITU World Cup win and a top ten finish in the ITU World Triathlon Series. Her departure makes way for Jessica Learmonth to join the squad.

Leeds-based 26 year-old Jessica achieved bronze at the Madrid ETU European Cup in September, and can call on her background as a national level swimmer to put her alongside the world’s best triathletes in higher levels of competition this year.

Performance Director, Brendan Purcell, said: “I’m pleased to be moving a year closer to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with a consistent and successful group of athletes and staff.”
