Trimakers are the family of volunteers in our sport that help make incredible events such as this run smoothly and provide positive experiences for all participants.

Without our volunteers, it wouldn’t be possible to deliver world-class paratriathlon and triathlon events in the UK.

There are a wide range of Trimaker roles available and offer something for everyone, be it supporting athletes on the course at aid stations, being that friendly face to welcome participants at registration or seeing them over the finish line, and even acting as a swim exit assistant to support para triathletes in and out of the water during their race!

New to 2023, once registered, Trimakers are now able to select their own shifts and roles, meaning you know when and what you are signed up to!

Chris Walker, Event Director for World Triathlon Para Series Swansea says: “The Trimakers really do make this event possible."

"When you volunteer at Swansea, you're guaranteed to come away feeling fulfilled, having made new connections and gained new skills along the way.

“And in 2024 you will also get to see our British athletes competing for those priceless Paralympic team spots for Paris 2024.”

Nick, who volunteered at Swansea in 2023, adds: “Thank you all at British Triathlon for making us feel so welcome and part of the team.

"You inspired me to volunteer more and I look forward to signing up for the event next year!"

Register now and join the Trimaker Team for the 2024 World Triathlon Para Series Swansea.

FAQs

Can I pick more than one shift or role?

Yes! As long as the shifts don't overlap you are welcome to pick multiple shifts and in different roles. Shifts are available on both Friday 21st June for event set up and Saturday 22nd June for competition day. Shifts are often split into morning or afternoon periods to allow more flexibility and accessibility for volunteers. Please mindful of your total time working if picking multiple shifts.

I have friends/family competing, can I watch?

The beauty of picking your own shifts is you can select times based around your availability. There is also the opportunity to select a route marshalling role too, which will be based along the competition course and in prime position for supporting athletes racing.

Can I take part in racing as well as volunteer at the event?

Yes! Get the full experience of 2024 World Triathlon Para Series Swansea and pick your volunteering shifts to fit around competing in either the British Triathlon Paratri Super Series or participation races (for younger athletes). Enter here.

NB: Individuals of all abilities, including those with physical, intellectual, or neurodiverse conditions are invited to participate. The event accommodates both paratriathlon-classified and non-classified competitors, with non-classified participants competing in a division matched to similar impairmentsOnly classified paratriathletes are eligible for Paratri Super Series points and prizes - more information can be found here.

I'd like to try a new role. What training will I receive?

We aim to upskill Trimakers by providing the opportunity to take part in new and positive experiences in volunteering at our events. To support this, we offer a collection of training support:

  • Newsletters - these newsletters will give you top tips for volunteering, answer FAQs, provide event information so you know what to expect at the event, and in our first edition ran through all there is to know about Paratriathlon.
  • Handbook - the Trimaker Handbook will be sent out in May to all volunteers. This bible provides information about the event, detailed descriptions of all Trimaker roles and responsibilities, the FAQs athletes or spectators may ask you, links to training videos and resources, and additional information on safeguarding, medical support at the event, key contacts, health and safety etc.
  • Trimaker Management Team - Trimakers are encouraged to contact trimakers@britishtriathlon.org with any questions or queries they may have pre-event. On the ground, the Trimaker Management Team will be on hand to make sure all volunteers have what they need to confidently complete their role. The addition of Trimaker Team Leaders and the core event team means there will always be someone for you to talk to and get support from.
  • Trimaker Pocket Guide - this handheld guide will be your go to when on the ground at the event. With venue maps and event schedules, FAQ answers, and key contacts.
  • On site induction - When you arrive for your shift, the Trimaker Management Team will connect you with your Team Leader and/or event core team staff member leading on your working area who will show you around your working area and lead an induction for your role. For Swim Exit Assistants specifically, there will be onsite training on Friday 21st June with World Triathlon officials and you will be invited to the British Paratri Super Series event in Llanelli (11th May) for extra practice if you wish!

Are there accessible roles available?

Yes, we are pleased to offer a wide range of roles across an all accessible event site. The role descriptions shed light on the type of tasks they will involve, as well as physicality, if there is an opportunity to be seated during the shift, if the role is inside or outside etc. There are also shorter shifts available. If you have questions about any of the roles or have specific requirements then don't hesitate to get in touch with the team - trimakers@britishtriathlon.org.

Can I volunteer with a group?

Absolutely, the more the merrier! If you are part of a sports club, knitting group, book club or just a social bunch of friends, get in touch with us and we'll be happy to slot you in together where possible. Similarly, if you are an experienced group of event volunteers, let us know and we can discuss the roles you or your group are allocated to.

If you are a smaller group (<5), please coordinate your role and shift selections together when using the portal.

I'm travelling from further afield, can I stay overnight?

This is at the discretion of each volunteer. Unfortunately the event are not able to subsidise any accommodation or travel for volunteers. Swansea offers a wide range of hotels and accommodation both within and just outside the city. To support our sustainability efforts, we encourage all staff to lift share or use public transport wherever possible. The Facebook Group can help you connect with other volunteers coming from nearby! The nearest train station to the venue is Swansea, and bus stops surround the venue (the nearest being Cape Horner or Quay Parade).
