The Old Crown pub in Bloomsbury paid host to an inaugural meeting between the London Clubs and the Triathlon London Chair Tom Chant, Vice Chair Chris Skinner supported by Jon Train the Triathlon England Regional Manager.
14 clubs attended the early evening session including representatives from all over London including East London Triathletes, Serpentine, Trent Park, Hillingdon, Optima and Crystal Palace. It was such a strong turnout we had several people sitting on the floor – kudos to East London Triathletes sticking it out!
The objective of the two hour session was to hear directly from the clubs, getting their views and opinions first hand on activities and events that the regional committee supports and initiates. The evening’s discussion will direct the program and activities of the Triathlon London Committee for the coming year. As a conduit between the sport’s governing body Triathlon England and the clubs themselves the regional committee has a key role to play in the collection and dissemination of views and ideas.
Tom said ”Having so many clubs turn out on a rainy mid-week night was a real bonus – it shows the depth of enthusiasm there is within London to build and strengthen triathlon in the region. We will be discussing outcomes from the evening at the upcoming meeting.”
The discussion was wide ranging with the main areas being covered of coaching courses, CPD for coaches, capacity building within clubs, senior and junior leagues, communication in the region, Triathlon England’s GoTri initiative, and the annual Awards process and evening.
There was very strong support from the clubs present for the evening’s discussion, with a request for a further later in 2014.
