London League 2018: Round 3 Crystal Palace Triathlon

Published:

The London League went into overdrive this weekend with a double-header of races on Sunday with the Dragon Slayer duathlon and the Crystal Palace Triathlon taking place.

For those looking for a scoring triathlon in the series, South London was the place to be for the Crystal Palace Triathlon. Fine but cool weather greeted over 730 athletes who took on the challenge of the 750m pool swim, technical 9-lap 20km bike and 5km 2-lap run in this classic at the iconic Crystal Palace stadium.

In the individual competition overall honours in the Men's went to Gary Laybourne (South London Harriers) in a speedy 1:03:23, followed by Ollie Hurdle (Thames Turbo) with Thomas Coombes (Tri London) in third.  For the Women Amy Pritchard (Tri London) took first place in 1:12:24, with Helena Hayes (unattached) runner-up and Susan Fairfax (Crystal Palace) in third  (all results provisional subject to final confirmation).

In the Team events the hosts Crystal Palace took the Men's honours with three finishers in the top 10, it was a similar story of home dominance in the Women's race with Crystal Palace again taking the win.  With this level of dominance the Mixed Team event obviously went to Crystal Palace making it a clean sweep.

Congratulations to everyone at Crystal Palace for a great event where many club members raced early and after a quick change marshalled for the benefit of visiting racers.  Events come thick and fast at this stage of the season with only 6 days to recover before Race 5,  the Clapham Chasers partnered Total Motion Aquathlon at Tooting Bec.
