Race Report: LL2015 Event 3 Ful-on Duathlon - 26th April 2015

Published:

One of the attractions of being a multi-sport athlete is the opportunity to take part in a wide range of events.

I read about the Ful-on Tri Duathlon, part of the London League series, and loved the idea of running and riding around the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold Park. Closed roads and a flat run sounded perfect for posting a personal best time. Arriving at the event on a chilly late April morning it became apparent that I hadn't factored in the obvious downside of a course laid out on a airfield - it was exposed and windy.
The race involved a two-lap 6km run, a five-lap 24km ride and another two-lap 6km run. The course is certainly unique - you don't get to run past a parked-up Boeing 747 and Dakota DC-3 very often. One of the sections of the triangular bike leg was directly into the wind and many competitors were convinced that the wind strength increased during the race (or were they just getting tired?!!).
Ful-on Tri’s event organisation was excellent and the many marshals gave plenty of encouragement to all. If you fancy something a bit different next year, I certainly recommend that you give this event a try.
