Race Report: 11th May 2014 Velopark Womens Duathlon

Sunday 11th May saw the first Womens Duathlon at the club run series of events at the Velopark in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The event was organised by London Fields Triathlon Club who put on a great event, depsite the wet and windy conditions. The race took the format of a 2mile run, 10mile cycle and a 1 mile run to finish. There was some great racing throughout the field, with Belinda Robbie eventually coming away with the overall win.
 
Isabelle Schelcher, A recent graduate from the "Introduction to Duathlon" session won the vets category and Judith Crichton won the super vets. Impressively Judith finish 4th overall just missing the overall podium by just 20 seconds.

The Women-only format proved popular with Emma (2nd vet) saying "it was a very welcoming atmosphere for a runner at their first venture out of their comfort zone". Jane (2nd super vet) said " thanks for an enjoyable and fun Sunday morning, had such a brilliant time". Grazyna (2nd overall) added "it was a very nice race, everything was clear and well organised. Thanks again for an awesome event".
A big thanks must go to the marshals and supporters that turned out on such a miserable day.
 
The series of events consists of; a senior series of 5 events, a womens series of 3 events and a childrens series of 3 races across the summer.
