Brits win five medals across Europe

Sam Dickinson secured his first win of the season with victory at Europe Triathlon Cup Kielce with Jonny Brownlee finishing third in Poland. Challenge Salou was the site for three medals for British triathletes as Rachel Brown and Natalie Lawrence finished second and third respectively in the women’s race, while Thomas Davis won a bronze medal in the men’s race.

Europe Triathlon Cup Kielce  

Dickinson won Europe Triathlon Cup Kielce by just two seconds ahead of Germany’s Henry Graf, with British teammate Brownlee third.  

Dickinson came through semi-final one in first place, out-sprinting Hungary’s Zalan Hobor with fellow Brit Hugo Milner, who finished 13th in the final, crossing the line third. Brownlee was the sole Brit in semi-final two and won by 18 seconds. Both Jimmy Lund and Chris Perham finished third in their respective finals as five British triathletes lined up in the final.

In the final, Dickinson positioned himself towards the front across the 400m swim and 7.6km bike leg before breaking clear on the 2km run to seal the win. His margin of victory was two second to Graf with Brownlee a further second back in third. Milner was 13th after securing the joint fastest run time of the day. Perham was 18th with Lund finishing 21st.  

In the women’s race, Annabel Morton was seventh in the final after she came through semi-final one in third. Iona Miller, who was sixth in the same semi-final as Morton, was 20th in the final, while Bethany Cook finished 13th after winning semi-final two.  

Europe Triathlon Cup Vigo  

At Europe Triathlon Cup Vigo Jack Willis was the highest of three Brits as he came fourth. Willis, who was 14 seconds off teammate and race leader Marcus Dey after the 750 swim, worked his way up the standings on the bike and run legs to narrowly miss out on a podium place. He was joined in the top-ten by Ben Dijkstra (sixth) with Dey dropping down the order and finishing 11th.  

World Triathlon Para Cup Vigo  

Paratriathlon action also took place with Rhys Jones and his guide, Will Draper, finishing fourth in Spain. The pair set about closing down the B1(blind)  athletes, who start with an advantage over their B2/3 (visually impaired) competitors due to the staggered start of the PTVI racing,  before putting in the fastest bike leg by almost 30 seconds. They crossed the line just nine seconds off a podium place in fourth.  

Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Silver Lake

Isabella Gar finished 13th in her semi-final to book her place in the final at Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Silver Lake. In the final she secured a place in the top-20 as she crossed the line 18th.  

IRONMAN Hamburg  

Fennella Langridge just missed out on a spot on the podium at IRONMAN Hamburg as she finished fourth in Germany. Langridge was second out of the water behind France’s Julie Iemmolo by just two seconds, before dropping down the order across the bike and run legs.Germany’s Daniela Bleymehl finished just over a minute clear of the Brit to take the final spot on the podium. Rebecca Anderbury was 13th.  

Challenge Salou  

Rachel Brown was a silver medallist at Challenge Salou with fellow Brit Natalie Lawrence in third. Lawrence led out of the water with Brown in fifth, with the pair were then together on the bike leg as Brown climbed up the standings before putting in the fastest run time of the race to take second place.  Lawrence, who set the third best bike and run legs of the race, secured the bronze medal.  

In the men’s race, Thomas Davis also won bronze. Davis was fourth out the water and put in the third best bike and run legs to climb onto the podium and maintain his spot across the line.
