Sunday 5th May 2024 saw athletes head to Ruthin for the second round of the Welsh Junior Race Series, sponsored by Coracle Coaches. The race was held at Ruthin Leisure Centre, which provided a pool swim followed by a tough technical grass bike and run circuit to test the athletes!
Despite the recent wet weather, North Wales brought one of the first warm sunny days of the year and with it, an extra challenge for the athletes to battle the unusual heat!
Athletes across TriStart, TriStar 1,2 & 3 as well as Youth and Junior categories raced in Ruthin. Those in TriStar 3 had the added incentive of racing for a place on the Welsh team for the Inter Regional Championships (IRC’s) later this year. This added an extra level of competition to an already fiercely competitive race and really tested the athletes across all three disciplines. Selection to the team will be announced in June.
It was great to see a lot of our Welsh Junior clubs represented across the day, wearing their club, Welsh IRC or Welsh Triathlon Academy kit with pride.

A reminder to all athletes that if you want to count for in the Welsh Triathlon Junior Race Series, you must be a full valid member of Welsh Triathlon. You can sign up for membership here. After Llanelli, the next round of the Series will take place at the Stephen Lewis Aquathlon on the 19th of May.
The Stephen Lewis Aquathlon will also be the selection race for the IRC’s for the TriStar 2 athletes. A reminder that to be eligible for selection, athletes must have a valid Welsh Triathlon membership by the selection race (with Wales listed as their region) as well as nominate to vickyjohnston@welshtriathlon.org by 9th June 2024.
