Stage 1 of the Welsh Triathlon Super Series Kicks off in a Sunny Llanelli

Published:

A weekend of Multisport took over Llanelli North Dock on the weekend on the 10th May where the sun shone on a packed weekend of triathlon organised by Healthy Life Activities.

Friday evening saw 150 swimmers take part in the annual Sospan Charity Swim which this year, raised money for Peony Breast Care Unit.

Saturday morning saw Stage 3 of the Welsh Junior Race Series Sponsored by Coracle Coaches (more information and results will be shared about this event soon) and also British Triathlon hosted a leg of their Super Series with junior, senior and paratri athletes competing.

Following on from great performances on the Friday and Saturday, Sunday saw Stage 1 of the Welsh Triathlon Super Series. The AGILIS sprint Triathlon. A superb event to kick start the Open water triathlon season. This event now in it’s 24th year has been a firm favourite with triathletes and this year’s event attracted over 450 athletes who enjoyed a warm swim in near perfect weather conditions.

In the open race, familiar face to the event Oliver Simon took the race by storm with a bike leg of 00:39:05 and coming in 1st overall in a time of 01:07:47. 2nd place belonged to Dafyd Jay who had an impressive run time of 00:16:28, and finishing in 01:08:10, shortly followed by Sean Petty in a time of 01:10:44

The women’s race had us at the edge of our seats with only 23 seconds separating the top 3 athletes, but it was 17 year old Millie Hannant who took victory in a time of 01:19:32, followed 13 seconds later by Emma Palfrey with a time of 01:19:45 and shortly followed to take 3rd Position – Tia Froom in a time of 01:19:55

It was great to see all the club kit back out in force, the series allows club members to score points for the club award at the end of the series. Last year’s winners were Pembrokeshire Triathlon club.

Also starting her Triathlon journey was Wheelchair athlete Tina Evans and her Relay team. Tina and her friends Nia, Mia, Helen and Catherine will be taking part in all 6 events this year.

A special mention has to go to event organiser Noelwyn Daniels and his team of volunteers from Healthy life activities in which once again they organised an outstanding weekend of racing!

Thanks to Clare Donovan who was Chief Technical Official at the event and her team of TOs and to Chris and his team of Moto TOs in keeping athlete safety at the forefront of their mind.
