Max Stapley and Kat Matthews both claimed top spots at the weekend, with the pair breaking clear on their respective run legs to seal impressive wins.

2024 World Triathlon Cup Chengdu

Stapley exited the 1500m swim amongst the leaders as he headed out onto the bike in the top five. Across the bike leg he remained towards the front of the field with a front four of Stapley, Germany’s Jonas Schomburg, New Zealand’s Tayler Reid and Hungary’s Mark Devay leading the way. The quartet stuck together for three laps of the four lap 10km run before Stapley made his move. The Brit broke away to finish seven seconds clear of Schomburg to claim his first World Triathlon Cup win. Further back, Reid outran Devay to secure third place.

Ben Dijkstra was the other Brit in action in China as he crossed the line in 14th.

2024 IRONMAN Texas

Kat Mathews exited the water in tenth in Texas with fellow Brit Fenella Langridge up in third. The duo remained in contention for the podium places across the bike leg. Matthews then put in the fastest run time of the day to make her way through the field and take victory ahead of Australian Penny Slater, with the Netherlands’ Lotte Wilms completing the podium. Langridge dropped down the field on the run and finished sixth. Simone Mitchell was the third Brit on the start line in Texas but recorded a DNF following T1.
