The Bala Standard Distance Triathlon took place last Sunday 9 September representing the final opportunity for age-group triathletes to book their place in the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2013 Alanya ETU Triathlon European Championships.

The qualification process began at the Bedford Classic in July with the second opportunity at the GE Strathclyde Park Triathlon, where athletes had the chance to cross the same finish line as the elite athletes who raced in the penultimate event of the British Triathlon Super Series later in the day.

The Bala Standard Distance Triathlon was won by David Bishop in a time of 01:50.13, with Carl Shaw in second place with 01:53.03. In third place overall was Jamie Hinton 01:55.01.

In the women’s race, first place overall went to Catherine Jameson 02:05.18, Eli Thorogood finished in second with 02:06.37, with Carol Bridge in third crossing the line in 02:07.20.

The event was set in the lakeside town of Bala, with competitors completing a 1,500m swim around Llyn Tegid, before competitors embarked on a 40km bike over closed roads in the beautiful North Wales scenery. From T2, athletes completed a 10km run alongside the bike course.

The event was organised by Wrecsam Triathlon, with full results available on
