Clumber Park opens the British Age-Group Championships calendar this weekend

The 2015 British Duathlon Championships take place on Saturday 21 March kick starting this season’s racing for British titles. The event is part of the Clumber Park Duathlon organised by One Step Beyond and features both sprint and standard distance duathlon races, the latter acting as the British Championships.

Set within Nottinghamshire’s National Trust Country Park, the run sections for both races take place on fully closed tarmac roads, featuring a slow incline on the way out before a fast decent into transition and the finish area.  The bike course in Clumber Park takes place on a mixture of open and closed roads, but with an undulating terrain, the final run is set to be even more challenging.

Iain Hamilton, Race Director at One Step Beyond commented: “This is the twelfth year we’ve hosted the Clumber Duathlon and this year is going to be extra special with it being the British Duathlon Championships.

“There are 1,100 people starting the sprint and standard distance events, so the event is bigger than ever this year. We hope everyone enjoys the stunning national park venue and has a great race whether they are going for British titles, or just to get to the finishing line.”

Clumber Park also offers a picturesque location in which to qualify for the Great-Britain Age-Group Team. The standard distance event provides the final opportunity to qualify for the 2015 ITU Standard Distance Duathlon World Championships in Adelaide, with Dambuster Duathlon and Oulton Park Spring Duathlon having decided the initial spots earlier this month.

Both races also act as qualifiers for further ITU World and ETU European Championships taking place this year and in 2016. Visit the British Triathlon website to find out more.

Jon Ridgeon, British Triathlon Board Director for Major and National Events, said: “Clumber Park is a fantastic setting in which to host our first British Age-Group Championships of 2015. I’m looking forward to seeing all competing duathletes take on the challenging course through Sherwood Forest as they battle for the coveted title of British Champion.

“With Great Britain Age-Group Team spaces up for grabs, it’s bound to be hard fought all the way to the line”.

Returning British Age-Group Duathlon Champions from 2014 are Joanna Wright (F20-24), Julian Lings (M25-29), Peter Ellis (M30-34), Hannah Troop (F30-34), Phil Melling (M35-39), Jim Burdett (M45-49), Wendy Nicholls (F45-49), Mick Anglim (M65-69) and Vernon Thomas (M70-74).

If you intend to qualify for the 2015 ITU Standard Distance Duathlon World Championships in Adelaide at Clumber Park Duathlon, you must register your intent to qualify by 5pm on Friday 20 March.
