Driven performances at Oulton Park

Published:

This weekend the Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon provided age-group athletes their second chance to qualify for the Great Britain Age-Group Team at the 2015 ETU Sprint and Standard Duathlon European Championships.

The race, which was held on Sunday 5 October, was the second qualifier for both the sprint and standard distance races at next year’s ETU Duathlon European Championships. Competitors ran and cycled around the famous race track at Oulton Park, Cheshire, in the last rays of the summer sunshine before the wind and rain hit hard.

There was a lot of competition for places on the 2015 Great Britain Age-Group Teams and some fast times were put in, especially on the long, straight sections of the track.

In the sprint race, Ian Lawton won the men’s race in 1:00.25. Lewis Eccleston of Astley & Tyldesley Road Runners crossed the finish line shortly after in 1:00.43 followed by Djalil Bajou of TFN Tri Club in 1:01.55. In the women’s race, Katy Youle-Grayling took the winning position in 1:12.34, followed by Ellie Gosling of TRI2O in 1:12.44.  Kirsty Vogan crossed the line in third in 1:14.03.

In the standard race, Luke Pollard of RAF Tri Club was the first man across the finish line in 1:42.35, followed by David Thomas in second position with a time of 1:44.34. Ian Roberts of Champion Systems followed in third place in 1:46.39. In the women’s race Louella O’Herlihy of Zoom Tri Club was the first lady home in 2:02.19 followed by Jenni Muston in second with a time of 2:03.57. Third place went to Briony Martin in 2:04.04.
