Emma Pooley is back to target more success in Zofingen on Sunday

The two-time and defending ITU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Champion returns to the hills of Switzerland on Sunday aiming for a third consecutive World Championship Gold

Sunday’s ITU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Championships in Zofingen, Switzerland, may have just one Great Britain Elite representative on the start list – but she will be wearing race no. 1 and will start as the favourite to finish in that same position around seven hours later.

Emma Pooley has dominated this event for the past two seasons, setting the course record in impressive style two years ago and winning that day by a margin of more than 30 minutes. This season Emma has been mixing multisport racing with a return to cycling, where she recently represented Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Rio. As both an Olympic (Silver) and World Championship (Gold) medal winner in the Cycling Time Trial, along with being regarded as one of the best climbers in the professional peloton, Pooley is perfectly suited to the challenges of the iconic and historic Zofingen course.

With distances of 10km run / 150km cycle / 30km run, along with significant climbs and descents across all disciplines, the challenge of Powerman Zofingen is a significant one, not to be underestimated.

As well as Emma Pooley in the Elite race, the GB Age-Group team will also be well represented. Winner of the F30-34 category last year, Angela Mcgurk returns 12 months later aiming to do the same in her new F35-39 Age-Group. Angela Denton was second last year in F50-54, and she is back once again to take on the challenge of the world’s most famous duathlon.
