Strathclyde Park, venue of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, will host the British Triathlon Sprint Distance Championships on Saturday

Strathclyde Park has both a past, present and future as the venue of major triathlon competition. Hosting the Commonwealth Games Triathlon events in 2014, the venue will also see major international competition return in just over 12 months time as host of the 2018 ETU Triathlon European Championships.

Saturday’s British Sprint Triathlon Championships is part of the Strathclyde Park Multisport Festival, organised jointly by Glasgow Triathlon Club and Durty Events. As well as the British Championships, the Festival will also be hosting the Triathlon Scotland National Mixed Relay Championships as well as Tristar, Novice and Super Sprint events.

There will be extra motivation for many athletes competing for British Triathlon Age-Group Championship medals, with the event also acting as a qualifier for the ETU Championships next year. As such a great opportunity to race at the same venue and on a very similar course to the 2018 European Championship. Competition for qualification slots is expected to be strong with an entry of 600 athletes registered for the Sprint Distance event.

As well as a great history, the Strathclyde Park course will also benefit athletes by racing taking place on fully closed roads. The race starts with a single lap, 750m swim in the Freshwater Loch, before four 5km laps of an undulating and technical bike course before concluding with a two lap, 5km run on flat paths and well-surfaced trails.
