Eight British athletes have been selected to take part in the Panevezys ETU Triathlon Youth European Championships in Lithuania, including last year’s silver medal winner, Matt Willis from the North West Academy.

The event features individual and Mixed Relay events from 13-16 July. The individual events start with semi-finals on the first day, with athletes advancing to A or B Finals the following day; meaning that athletes gain a variety of international racing experiences as part of their pathway to future junior international teams.

Individual events take place over a 500m swim, 11.4 km bike and 3.6 km run. The Mixed Relays see four athletes each cover a mini triathlon of half those distances.

European Youth Championships have marked the beginning of international careers for many of our current stars. Lucy Hall recently posted a photograph on Twitter including herself with Tom Bishop and Jonathan Brownlee at a Youth Mixed Relay event from nearly ten years ago.
