Great Britain Team ready to race in Ottawa

Published:

The Great Britain Age-Group Team will have 172 representatives competing at the 2013 Ottawa ITU Duathlon World Championships in Canada this Saturday August 10. Ninety-seven of those are racing the standard distance and 75 the sprint.

Two of the GB team are returning gold medallists: Peter Wheddon (55-59) and Elspeth Knott (60-64), both in the standard distance (10km, 40km, 5km). There was no sprint (5km, 20km, 2.5km) event at the Championships held in Nancy, France last year.

Wheddon is aiming to win an ITU Duathlon World title for a third time, having won last year and in 2008.

Knott will be hoping for a fourth ITU Duathlon Wold title in a row. She also won gold at the 2013 ETU Long Distance Duathlon European Championships held in Horst, Netherlands in April.

As well as the age-group races, Ottawa will host the ITU Junior and Under 23 Duathlon World Championships with Liam Lloyd and Calum Johnson racing in the men’s  junior event with Georgina Schwiening and Kate Curran in the women’s race. Both Liam and Georgina won silver at the European Championships in Horst earlier this year and will be aiming to return to the podium in Ottawa.

Richard Horton competes in the U23 event and completes the Great Britain Team.
