Llandudno set for final World Championship sprint qualification race

Published:

Tomorrow’s Llandudno Sea Triathlon provides the final opportunity to qualify in the sprint distance event as part of the British Age-Group team for the PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final London, 11-15 September in Hyde Park.

With exceptionally high standards having been seen at every qualification event so far, this one promises to be equally fast and furious.

The race starts with a 750 metre sea swim, then onto a stunning and challenging 19 kilometre cycle section on closed roads around the Great Orme with its glorious views over the North Wales Coast.  The 5 kilometres run will see athletes heading out along the Victorian Promenade and then over the Little Orme to Penrhyn Bay and back, finishing along the promenade.

Tomorrow’s race will see competitors starting in age group waves from 14.30 until 16.15, with the standard distance event commencing at 16.30.

Llandudno first held this race in 2009 and with great athlete and spectator reviews each year, it will provide a great spectacle as athletes compete for the last available slots for the sprint distance event at Hyde Park.

Over 1000 athletes aged 16 to 80 will make up the British Age Group team in London. Each will have the unique opportunity to compete in national colours for their country at the London 2012 Olympic venue.

The team will be finalised following the British Triathlon Championships Liverpool next month.
