Known to everyone in the triathlon world as ‘Tizzy’, Tiszaujvaros in Hungary has been one of the iconic locations for the sport in Europe for the past two decades, consistently holding ITU World Cup events and many other major championships. The TriWeek festival is an annual highlight.
This year Tizzy hosted both an ITU World Cup and ETU Junior European Cup event, with both running under a semi-finals and finals format.
The Junior European Cup event saw all four British athletes safely qualify for the final, with Cameron Harris (2nd), Sophie Alden (1st), Olivia Mathias (4th) and Issy Morris (12th) coming through their respective semi-finals.
The Super Sprint distance would ensure close racing, and Olivia Matthias would produce the performance of the day from a British perspective, to take the Bronze medal. After fifth recently in the ETU Junior Triathlon European Championships, it represents another excellent result for an athlete who also won at this event two years ago.
In the senior ITU Triathlon World Cup events – also held over a semi-final / final format, the sole British qualifier for the finals was Chris Perham. He went on to finish 19th in the final which was won by home athlete Bence Bicsak.
