GB Age-Group qualification season concludes at Althorp Duathlon

Published:

Age-Group athletes will have the final chance to qualify for the Great Britain Age-Group Team in 2014 this weekend at the Althorp Duathlon on Saturday 18 October.

The Althorp Duathlon will be host to the final qualifiers for both the 2015 Alcobendas ETU Sprint Duathlon European Championships and the 2015 Alcobendas ETU Standard Duathlon European Championships. There will be strong competition for qualification places for both Championships.

The event, which is run by On Your Marks Events, will be held at the beautiful Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire. Competitors will take in the beautiful setting as they run and cycle through the tree-lined avenues of Althorp Estate. The estate roads will be closed to traffic before competitors branch out onto the very quiet roads between the Northamptonshire villages of Little Brington and Great Brington.

These quite roads will give competitors the chance to run and cycle fast, putting a season of training into very good practice. Suitable for both novices and experienced athletes, this duathlon set late in the season allows both sprint and standard athletes an opportunity to end their season on a high after a year of hard training and a summer of tough races.

The sprint race, which is the qualifier for the 2015 ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon European Championships, will comprise a 5km run followed by a 20km bike and finishes with a 5km run. The standard race, which is the qualifier for the 2015 ETU Standard Duathlon European Championships will consist of a 10km run, then a 40km cycle followed by a 5km run.

Joan Lennon, Team Manager for the ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon European Championships commented:

“Places in the team are being hotly contested and the number of duathletes competing for places has increased greatly, reflecting the increase in participation in multisport events nationally. We already have a strong group of athletes who have qualified and I look forward to seeing the outcome of Saturday's race and completing the final team selection."

The 2015 qualification races will kick off again on 7 March at the Dambuster Duathlon. For a complete list of the 2015 qualifiers please click here.
