Althorp Duathlon provides Great Britain Age-Group Team qualification opportunity

Published:

The Althorp Duathlon takes place this Saturday 2 March.

The event is the first opportunity for age-group duathletes to book their place in the Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2013 Horst ETU Powerman Sprint Duathlon European Championships and 2013 Ottawa ITU Sprint Duathlon World Championships.

Althorp Duathlon is the first qualification event for the Great Britain Age-Group Team this season in what will be an exciting year of multisport action for athletes across the country as London hosts the 2013 PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final in September.

This early season race will see duathletes race through the Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire completing a 5km run, 20km bike and final 5km run.

The qualification process for the 2013 Horst ETU Powerman Sprint Duathlon European Championships will continue later this year at the Morpeth Sprint Duathlon on 1 April. The Morpeth event is also the third and final chance to qualify for the 2013 Ottawa ITU Sprint Duathlon World Championships, whilst the Clumber Park Duathlon on 23 March is the second qualification race for Ottawa.

For duathletes intending to qualify at the Althorp Duathlon event, you must register your intent on the British Triathlon website by 5pm Friday 29th February 2013.

Malcolm Westwood, British Triathlon Director for Age-Group, added: “It’s very exciting to get the 2013 qualification process underway in what will be a great year for our Great Britain Age-Group Team. The Althorp Duathlon will provide a good early season test and will ensure the strongest athletes qualify for the European and World Championship teams.”
