Athletes prepare to sprint for success at British Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships

Published:

The British Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships are set to take place this weekend, with competitors all racing to win the coveted British titles at the Big Cow Sprint Triathlon on Sunday 27 May 2012.

The event is the fourth of eight British Age-Group Championships in 2012 and will see athletes race in the picturesque setting of Emberton Country Park in Buckinghamshire. Athletes will embark on a 750m swim, 20km bike around the undulating Buckinghamshire countryside and then a 5km run to finish.

In addition to the British Age-Group Championships, the event also doubles as a GE Great Britain Age-Group Team qualification event for the 2012 Auckland ITU Sprint Triathlon World Championships. The event is the second opportunity to qualify after last weekend’s Eton Sprint Distance event, which was won by Phil Holland (35-39) and Stacey Penn (30-34).

The final opportunity to qualify after the Big Cow event will be the Bristol Harbourside Triathlon on 15 July 2012.

Mark Booth, Race Director from Big Cow Events commented: “Big Cow is thrilled this weekend to be hosting the British Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships, bringing a large number of people to such a lovely location. This is our first event of 2012 and the crew are very excited and highly motivated to show the quality of Big Cow Events. Along with the Championships, we are a world qualifier, so a head to head battle between the age-groups is going to make for a great race.”

Ian Braid, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events, added: “The British Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships will provide the perfect platform for age-group athletes to achieve their personal triathlon challenges. To take part in any of our British Age-Group Championships is always a memorable occasion for any athlete, and with the additional prestige of being a qualifier for the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team, I am sure we will see some fast and exciting racing in the Buckinghamshire countryside.”

The event is organised by Big Cow Events, with more information available on http://www.big-cow.com. Results will be available on www.tri247.com
