British Age-Group team continues medal challenge in Vichy

Published:

The Great Britain Age-Group team is represented at the ETU European Long Distance Championships at Challenge Vichy this Sunday. British triathletes will help make up the start line of over 1,400 athletes taking on the 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and marathon run.

The French spa town of Vichy will host elite and Age-Group athletes, many of whom will want to capitalise on the fast course to set personal best times.

Rachel Joyce is the reigning ETU European Long Distance Champion, but with no British athletes on the elite start line, the Age-Group team will take up the mantle continuing Britain’s international triathlon success.

So far this year the Great Britain Age-Group team has won 197 medals, including 73 gold, in international competition around the world. The tally already surpasses the totals from 2011 and 2012 with the PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final London still to take place featuring 1000 British athletes (11-15 September).

Thirty two British long distance athletes will now set themselves the challenge of adding to that total on Sunday. Dave Pratten has the dubious honour of being the most senior member of the team, racing in the 60-64 Age Group.

The swim takes place in the rowing lake, Lac d’Allier. The 180km bike ride passes through hilly woods and the plain of Limagne with the backdrop of the Auvergne Volcanoes. The marathon run passes through the famous parks of Vichy and banks of the Allier River.
