British Duathlon Championships set to deliver explosive racing at the Dambuster Duathlon

The British Duathlon Championships kick-start the 2012 age-group season with over 800 competitors all racing to win the coveted British titles at the Dambuster Duathlon on Saturday 10 March 2012.

The event is the first of eight British Championships in 2012 and will see duathletes race in the picturesque setting of Rutland Water in Leicestershire. The opening 10km run around the lake and across the dam allows duathletes to follow their competition closely. However, duathletes shouldn’t push the pace too much as the 42km bike incorporates the infamous Rutland Ripple – a rolling row of hills  – before a final 5km out-and-back burst for the line.

The event is also the first of three qualifiers for the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team at the 2012 Nancy ITU Duathlon World Championships in September. Oulton Park Duathlon on 25 March is the second qualification opportunity before the final qualifier on 15 April at the Cambridge Duathlon.

Ian Braid, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events, is looking forward to the event commenting: “The British Duathlon Championships at the Dambuster Duathlon will get our age-group season off to an exciting start with a fast and challenging course providing a real test for competitors. To take part in any of our British Championships is always a memorable occasion for any athlete, and the standard of racing is always extremely high.  This event has an added edge, with many of the entrants also aiming to qualify for the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team at the first time of asking.”

Malcolm Westwood, British Triathlon Director for Age Group, added: “The Dambuster Duathlon will see age-group athletes embark on a challenging course as they aim to book their place in the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team at the 2012 Nancy ITU Duathlon World Championships in September. The standard and competition for places will be strong in Rutland, highlighting the continued growth and success of our modern and dynamic sport.”

The event is being organised by Pacesetter events, with more information available on www.pacesetterevents.com
