Dambuster Duathlon took place last weekend on Saturday 8 March as duathletes had their first opportunity to qualify for the Great Britain Age-Group Team in 2014.

The race was the first qualification event for the 2014 Pontevedra ITU Standard Distance Duathlon World Championships and the 2015 ETU Standard Distance Duathlon European Championship and saw duathletes race in the picturesque setting of Rutland Water.

The overall winner was Dan Bigham (20-24) of Oxford Brooks University Tri team who completed the 10km run, 42km bike and 5km run in a time of 01:55.12. Dan was just ahead of Imperial College Tri Club athlete Hugh MacKenzie (30-34) who finished just seven seconds behind the winner completing the course in 01:55.19. In third place overall was Duncan Bullock (25-29), with a time of 01:56.01.

Sarah May (35-39) of Calderdale Tri Club was the fastest female duathlete at Rutland completing the course in 02:12.13.  Bedford Harrier and 2013 British Triathlon Age-Group Triathlete of the Year, Gill Fullen (50-54) finished second overall with a time of 02:14.08. Louise Fox (30-34) of Thames Valley Tri finished in third place crossing the line in 02:15.45.

For duathletes who missed the chance to qualify at Dambuster Duathlon, the Clumber Classic Duathlon (22 March) and Stockton Duathlon Festival (27 April) provide two further opportunities to make the team for the 2014 ITU World Championships. The 2015 European Championships also has two additional qualification events at Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon (5 October) and Althorp Duathlon (18 October).
