Duathlon takes the driving seat at Oulton Park

Published:

The duathlon season continues on Sunday 16 March at Oulton Park Spring Duathlon, as the famous racetrack hosts the first Great Britain Age-Group Team qualification event for the 2014 ITU Sprint Distance Duathlon World Championships.

The Oulton Park Spring Duathlon organised by Xtra Mile Events will provide duathletes with the excitement of a mass start followed by the thrill of racing around the smooth and fast tarmac of Oulton Park Motor Racing Track, with plenty of great spectator spots throughout the course.

The sprint distance race include a 4.31km run around the race track before a 21.6km bike that includes significant undulation and some sharp bends for competitors to navigate whilst racing at some fast speeds. The final run will repeat the opening leg, with a single lap of the track to cover the 4.31km.

The Great Britain Age-Group Team presents the opportunity for Home Nation members to qualify and compete at international level. Great Britain has a history of success at every international championship in which the team competes. Last year in the ITU Sprint Duathlon World Championships in Ottawa, the team celebrated 7 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals.

For duathletes who miss the chance to qualify at Oulton Park Duathlon, the Clumber Classic Duathlon (22 March) and Morpeth Duathlon Festival (6 April) provide two further opportunities to make the team for the 2014 ITU World Championships.
