Eton Dorney crowns first British Champions of the season

The British Sprint Triathlon Championships took place at the Eton Sprints on Saturday 17 May with a field of over 700 competitors all aiming to win the first British age-group titles of the season.

The event saw triathletes compete in the first British Championships of the season at the iconic London 2012 Olympic Rowing venue of Eton Dorney.
 
The overall winner was Neil Eddy (25-29) who completed the 750m swim 21.2km bike and 5km run in 59.22. Neil was just under half a minute ahead of second placed Paul Ryman (30-34) of Froome Triathlon Club who crossed the line in 59.51. Seven seconds further back was Luke Pollard (20-24) of RAF Triathlon claiming third place overall. All three athletes added their age-group titles to their overall podium finishes.
 
In the women’s race, Rachel Hallam (30-34) finished in first place overall with a time of 01:05.52. In second place was Hazel Smith (25-29) of Edinburgh RC, who crossed the line in 01:06.20. Sarah Lewis (30-34) was in third place overall finishing 50-seconds behind Hazel in 01:07.10.
 
The event was the first of four British Age-Group Championships this season with the next opportunity to win a coveted British title at the British Triathlon Championships in Liverpool on 10 August, followed by the British Middle Distance Championships in Aberfeldy on 17 August and finally the British Duathlon Championships at Emberton Country Park on 12 October.
