British Triathlon is pleased to invite bids from event organisers to host one of three Great Britain Age-Group Team qualification events for the 2013 London ITU Aquathlon World Championships.

This year’s ITU Aquathlon World Championships will take place as part of the 2013 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final London, which will see the world’s top athletes return to Hyde Park for the first time since the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The bidding process will open on Monday 21 January, with all bids required by 1 February 2013. Full details can be found below:

Organisers should submit events, which consist of a 750m swim followed by a 5km run, and they must take place no later than 2 June 2013.

Bids are invited from event organisers, which permit with the Home Nation Associations: Triathlon England, Welsh Triathlon or triathlonscotland. Organisers and their events must have successfully run for a minimum of one year, and be in good standing with the relevant Home Nation Association and British Triathlon.

Ian Braid, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events commented: “The ITU Aquathlon World Championships will be part of the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in London this year adding another exciting discipline to an event which is undoubtedly the highlight of the 2013 calendar in September. We will be aiming to attract many of the top aquathlon events in Great Britain to come forward and enter the bidding process as we strive to create a high-quality qualification experience for aspirant members of the Great Britain Age-group Team.”

Malcolm Westwood, British Triathlon Director for Age-Group Teams added: “Great Britain has a great tradition of sending a strong team to the ITU Aquathlon World Championships and this year with a home World Championships, I expect even greater interest in qualification. The quality of the events is vital to ensure we have the strongest Great Britain Age-Group Team possible, enabling us to improve on our two gold, two silver and seven bronze medals won in Auckland last year.”

The successful events will be announced after the 14 February 2013.
