Lucy Gossage is aiming to build on her European success as she represents the GE Great Britain Team at the prestigious Zofingen ITU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Championships in Switzerland this weekend.
Matt Moorhouse takes part in the elite men’s event and the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team will also be in action and aiming for medals.
Lucy Gossage, a 33-year-old cancer research doctor in Cambridge, won the ETU Powerman European title in Horst, Netherlands in April. It was the first time she had represented the GE Great Britain Team. She now takes on the iconic Swiss course, which involves a 10km run, 150km bike and 30km run. Both the run and bike courses are on hilly, challenging terrain.
Gossage said: “Winning in Horst was a total surprise to me, but the experience was fantastic and it’s an honour to race in the national team colours. These championships were never in my plans for this year, but after Horst a lot of people have persuaded me that this is a great race and that I should give it a go.”
Gossage and Moorhouse race on Sunday 2 September and will be joined by a GE Great Britain Age-Group Team consisting of 27 athletes.
GE Great Britain Age-Group Team Manager, Peter Hallatt said:”I am really excited to be taking a decent sized GE Great Britain Age-Group Team to compete in the most iconic and arguably, the toughest duathlon. Our team is strong and will be up against a tough mainly European field. The team is considerably bigger than the inaugural ITU race last year and that bodes well for the future.”
