Published:

The Cambridge Duathlon took place last Sunday 15 April at Bottisham Village College in Cambridgeshire.

The event represented the final opportunity for age-group duathletes to book their place in the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2012 Nancy ITU Duathlon World Championships in September.

The event saw competitors complete an opening 7.5km run around the Cambridgeshire village, before embarking on a three-lap bike course covering 40km. Once into T2, duathletes then headed out for their final 7.5m run.

Lee Piercy won the event in a time of 1:54.08. He delivered the second fastest opening run split of the day (25.19), before really cementing his position on the bike leg where he was over a minute faster than any of his rivals (01:00.27).

Former British Duathlon Champion Julian Lings took second place in a time of 01:56.34. Lee and Julian were well ahead of the rest of the field with third placed athlete Ian Turner two minutes and 32-seconds back finishing in 01:59.06.

In the women’s field, Amy Forshaw crossed the line first in a time of 02:14.02. Amy recorded the fastest opening run and bike split to ensure she was first woman across the line. Gill Fullen came second in 02:15.56, with Kate Mapham running the fastest final run split of the women’s race to claim third with 02:16.37.
