GE Great Britain Age Group Team racing in Nevada

A team of over one hundred GE Great Britain Age Group Team triathletes are set to compete in the 2011 Henderson ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships on 5 November 2011.

 

Triathletes will need to race three times the standard triathlon distance with a 4km swim, 120km bike with 7,000ft of climbing and then final 30km run with another 2,000ft of elevation. To add to the challenge the event takes place in the heart of the Nevada desert.
 
The GE Great Britain Age Group Team includes two reigning European champions with Rachel Barnes (30-34) and Nicola Goodwin (35-39) both aiming to make 2011 a year of double celebration. European silver medallist Judith Brand (50-54) is also racing and will be aiming to go one better at the world stage.
 
There is also an elite GE Great Britain Team racing with 2007 ITU Long Distance World Champion Leanda Cave as well as Rachel Joyce aiming to bring the title back to Great Britain. Leanda and her fellow British athletes have won four out of the past five ITU Long Distance Triathlon titles thanks to Chrissie Wellington, Jodie Swallow and Bella Comerford, it was Swiss athlete Caroline Steffen won the title in 2010 breaking the British success.
 
In the elite men’s event, Scott Neyedli and Nicholas Ward Munoz will both be racing to win another world title for the GE Great Britain Team.
 
Malcolm Westwood, British Triathlon Director for Age Group is excited about the upcoming races commenting: “The 2011 Henderson ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships will provide the perfect platform for our GE Great Britain Age Group triathletes to achieve their personal triathlon challenges. 
 
“Last year in Immenstadt, the GE Great Britain Age Group Team narrowly missed out on a medal. This year we have a strong team racing with two current European champions who can use their experience at European level to inspire their fellow teammates to deliver a medal from a tough Henderson course.”
