Grendon Triathlon presents GE Great Britain Age-Group Team qualification opportunity

Published:

The Grendon Triathlon takes place this Sunday 13 May at Grendon Lakes in Northamptonshire, representing the first opportunity for age-group triathletes to book their place in the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2013 Alanya ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships in Turkey.

The sprint distance event will see competitors embark on a fast 750m swim due to the lack of currents in the inland water followed by an undulating 23km bike and flat 4.2km run.

The Grendon Triathlon is the first of three qualifiers for the 2013 Alanya ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships with the second opportunity at the Worthing Sprint Triathlon on 12 August and the final chance at Rother Valley on 16 September.

Philippa Morgan from Just Racing commented:  “Just Racing are looking forward to hosting the European Sprint Qualifier at Grendon Lakes this weekend.  Over 600 competitors have signed up to take part in our first open water sprint of the season.  With the recent rain that we have had, we have been keeping a close eye on the water temperature, which had reached 13 degrees by Friday, well within the recommended guidelines.

“The swim is on inland water and the lack of currents means a fast swim. The bike is an undulating course and the race will be completed by a fast, flat and slightly shortened run course of 4.2km due to weather conditions. “

Malcolm Westwood, British Triathlon Director for Age Group, added: “It’s great to get the qualification process started for next year’s ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships in Turkey this weekend in Grendon. With over 600 competitors I am sure there will be some exciting racing and with the added bonus of being able to qualify for the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team, it will be an event enjoyed by all.”

The event is being organised by Just Racing UK, with more information available on http://www.justracinguk.com
